SSAS Partitioning & SQL Server Partitioning

  • Just wanted to clarify if these 2 are treated the same in terms of licensing.

SQL Server Standard Edition does not include partitioning and enterprise edition does.

Is that to say the partitioning facility in SSAS is not available on the standard edition ?

I have always worked in enterprise environments and my understanding was that the partitioning facility in SSAS was dependent on you being licensed to have partitioning on SQL Server.

Therefore if you were a standard edition user you couldn't use the partitioning facility in SSAS standard edition.

You can have a limited number (3?) of partitions in SSAS using Standard edition; but you cannot process these in parallel. Most everything says you cannot have SSAS partitions with Standard edition -- but this isn't the case.
