Analysis Services not available in 'Server Type' drop-down

  • Hi there,

    First post for me here.

I've just upgraded from 2008 R2 Express to 2008 R2 Enterprise in order to work with some cubes in Analysis Services. I now have two instances of SQL server, SQLEXPRESS (Express) and SQLENT (Enterprise).

During installation, I made sure analysis services was selected and the service now appears in the config manager - great. However, when I try to connect to it from SSMS I run into trouble - 'Analysis Services' isn't available in the server type drop-down in the 'connect to server' dialogue, rather I only have "Database Engine" and "SQL Server Compact".

Does this mean I have to uninstall the whole lot and start again with just one instance of the Enterprise version?

Additional complication in that I can't just detach (from Express) and re-attach (to Enterprise) my existing DBs as it's complaining that Express is a newer version than Enterprise. I've used the 'import and export data' wizard to copy one or two, but have about ten left to get through - is there a quicker way to do this?

For bonus points, how to I restore an .abf file to analysis services?

    Thanks all,

    Stuart

  • It might be that you're using the Express client tools. Did you reinstall the client tools as well when you upgraded?
