  Problem: IT management is pointing to vendor whitepapers to justify SQL Server performance on virtual platforms.

  I am looking for Independent research from reputable IT sources benchmarking SQL Server performance to counter this.

  SQL Versions: 2k5, 2k8

  Scenarios: OLTP and DW

  Virtualization Platforms: VMware, HyperV

  Research Providers: Gartner, IDC, Meta or others; Not EMC, VMW, MSFT, etc.

  I also do not want any report "commissioned" by a hardware provider (Dell or HP). "commissioned" means "bought" to me. Again, Objective third party research is the goal, not sales BS masqueraded as independent research.
