  • Fragmented indexes slow down your SQL Servers and keep your clients waiting, not good for a business. Using DBCC SHOWCONTIG to create your trend analysis is time-consuming and slow. Visual Defrag is the fast and simple solution to the persistent problem of index fragmentation. With an easy to understand graphical display, Visual Defrag helps you get the best performance from your databases so your clients won't be waiting. Visual Defrag quickly shows you where the heaviest fragmentation exists so you can prioritize jobs and defragment only where it needs it. The scheduler automatically speeds up your databases out of business hours, keeping your servers running at peak performance all round the clock.

We had a potential problem with our helpdesk server as we had to wait until the weekend to gain access to. Visual Defrag has a built-in scheduler for SQL Server 2000 and 2005, so you can set up defrag jobs to happen when you want so we set this up for early Saturday morning with the aid of the scheduler, by the time we arrived the job had already been completed after the completion of the backup, so we could concentrate on other admin tasks. Needless to say that the File Fragmentation was reduced from 99% to 23% in under 1 hour and the performance of the database was greatly increased. From then we scheduled a defrag of the same database every weekend ensuring data integrity for all our customers, internal and external.

If you think Visual Defrag 2005 is great take a look at Visual Defrag 2007 you can maximise the window to show all values of the database you are analysing and the best part is that this will run in Windows 2008 (Beta Test June 2007-June 2008) & SQL 2008 without any problems.
