BIDS ScriptComponent - unable to edit scripts

  • SQL Server 2008R2 and still developing in BIDS. This is on a corporate machine so it is locked down quite a bit.
I can create a new package, create a script task and edit it. All is good

When I add a script component task to the Data Flow Task. I select Source from the  Select Script Component Type window. Then I edit the Task. If I click the Edit Script button on the bottom - 1st Warning Message "No template information found. See the Application log in event viewer for more details.
When you click ok on the warning box you get an Error message pop up
"Cannot show Visual Studio Tools for Applications editor."
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002) (EnvDTE80)

    For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft%u00ae+Visual+Studio%u00ae+2008&ProdVer=9.0.30729.1&EvtSrc=Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.DataFlowUI.SR&EvtID=CouldNotShowVSTAIDE&LinkId=20476

Cant go to that link (as I said its a corporate machine)

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. I am guessing its permissions rather than install. Oh and the Application log
"The global template information is out of date. Regenerate the templates by running 'VSTA.exe /installvstemplates' or reinstalling the application. Note: corrective action requires Administrator privileges. "

"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID "

I got my hands on an administrater and ran the VSTA.exe /installvstemplates but that did nothing
    Thanks in Advance

  • Thanks,
Saw that page on one of my trawls on the subject. Been through most of that. Cant touch registry as it is a corporate machine and as such locked down.
I am getting one of the guys to try and run BIDS as an admin tomorrow just to disprove its my lack of permissions. They have changed a few permissions but I suspect they are locking down something I need to access.

    Many Thanks

  • Resolved. Got an admin to run bids as admin, open script component. Editor fired up. Then close down bids.

Then I opened up solution and could edit script component.

Guessing it’s how they install it and as low level user I needed an admin to edit a script component, after that I can do it without the extra permissions.
