  • Thanks for this final section.  I'm upgrading a data warehouse from 2005 to 2016.  Based on what I'd read about columnstore indexes up to this point, it didn't seem possible to get much use out of them.  This article has changed my mind.  To comment on one of your points: one of the big improvements made possible by the changes in SSIS is that the ETL job runs hourly for most of the day.  We are also making the shift from seeing the data warehouse as a strategic reporting to being a partner with the operational reporting as well.  The main source data is a PostgreSQL database, though, so combining the two is not in the cards.
