ReportBuilder 3.0 not downloading and running on some machines on same domain

  • SQL Server 2012 Report Builder 3.0

Report Builder works fine on machines with loacal SQL server installs, and does not on user machines.

They have 4.5 Dot Net Framework

    SQL Server Client tools

    IE 11,0

When they log into the domain and click Report Builder nothing happens. They can see all of the reports in the Report Manager. Launching RB independently doesn't allow linking back to that source, and that is not the desired approache anyways.

Son it works fine on machines with SQL Server installed, but is not working on machines w/o SQL Server.

It seems I have the pre-requisites for the software. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  • That is funny, we see the exact same thing. It starts out working properly for each user, but after a few days it breaks. I have tried a few things, restarting the RS server got some users working. Not sure if it will break again though and I haven't had time to do any more troubleshooting.

  • In my case it is not that it stops working for some, it is more of what does RB need (installed components) to work. This ia a mature product so there is an easy answer out there, but I'm just not seeing it.

  • Did you try IE compatibility view? Does it work from an older browser?

  • Yeah, 32 and 64 bit too. It just does not want to launch. Good idea though.

I'm ready to fix this with a hammer and install SS2012 on one of the workstations to see if that does the trick.

Again this should be a pretty simple fix.

    Thanks for the help.

  • More trials:

When we log on as another user to the domain it works. So when we run IE as another user fill in the credentials, it does not work, like the credentials are not being passed. However, when we log into that domain as that user then run IE as another user (same user) the report Builder launches successfully.

Another user with same OS, same group membership, etc. runs IE as another user and can launch RB with no issues.

Cached credentials? I'm kind of stuck, but it seems the common denominator is the clickonce process?

    I'm guessing now.
