Sometimes we forget that... the thing about local speakers, I mean. And it seems that SQL Saturday may have changed quite a bit since Andy originally defined it. It's a great way not only to give local speakers the opportunity to share and show their stuff but it's also become one of the ways to attract heavy hitters from out of the area to some not-so-well-travelled towns and for people like myself that can't always go out of town or suffer the expense to attend one of the larger conferences to see the heavy hitters.

I should look at putting together some kind of presentation(s) while I am out here in Beautiful Brown Afghanistan. I would like to give presenting at a local UG meeting or SQL Saturday a shot, see if I like and any good as well.

I have had that thought too, Steve, although you have had way more exposure to the SQL Saturdays than I. While it is nice to see big names if you don't normally get the chance, I think the big names should only be used to fill in the gaps, and the local speakers should get priority, otherwise the goal of building the speaker base is not being accomplished.

I'd like to see 50% local speakers. I know that's hard for some events, and I'm happy to fill in, but I'd like to encourage more local people to share their knowledge.
