Utilizing dbWarden and ApexSQL Log to monitor a 2008R2 Standard database

  • Hello --

I took on the responsibility of finding a way to determine if changes were made to a particular database used by one of our mission critical applications. The ability to monitor changes would enable my employer to achieve a prestigious accreditation. Ideally, SQL Server Integration Services, SSIS, would be deployed in this scenario. However, due to our having Standard as opposed to Enterprise edition, that was not possible.

As an alternative, I utilized dbWarden and ApexSQL Log, and the combination of the two has proven to be what was needed to monitor the database, and achieve the accreditation.

Is this a topic that people would spark interest?

  • SSIS is available in Standard Edition for all versions.
