For a Mac, should I get VMware Fusion or continue using Parallels?

  • ok.

1st, I've used both products for quite a while. I have VMware on my PC Laptop, and Parallels on my Mac Mini and Mac Air.

Now ... I am trying to consolidate all my testing and virtual work to my MacMini and I wonder if I should continue using Parallels or get VMware Fusion, for Mac.

The reason why I am asking is because on VMware, building a SQL Cluster it's relatively easy and works really good. I also believe there are "ready to use" appliances or SAN devices for a Cluster, while I do believe that's not true for Parallels.

    Any opinions?

  • While I was never crazy about the Mac OS, VMWare on the Mac was magnificent. It worked wonders. I loved how tightly it was coupled with the OS. I'm back on a Windows laptop now and the company has forced me to stop using VMWare. I miss it regularly, especially how it worked on the Mac. Hyper-V is just not the same.

  • Hi Grant,

    Thanks a lot for reply.

Yes, I really like VMware. I actually tried Fusion but already have Parallels on my MacMini so do not know what to do. But I think that I may get VMware.

I do agree on your comment about Hyper V. While Microsoft has made lot of improvements, I still believe is years behind when compared to VMware and all its features.

I upgraded my MacMini hard drive yesterday (hybdrid disk) 🙂 so I am ready to try and build my SQL 21012 lab.
