Scalar-valued Function Security Access

  • There is a scalar-valued function on prodcution that is not replicated to our report server (which I need it to be). In the meantime, the DBA simply scripted the function (from prod) and ran it on the replica server. She can see it, but no one else could. I can see it on a couple of our other DB's where the db_executor security is set (because I'm a member of that group or higher on those DB's).

Doesn't the DBA have to add the security of public or something that would grant access for the report tool and users to access function?

(let's not get into why this function is used in reporting... that's a whole nother ball of wax, case of beer, and thread!)

  • If this is scalar valued function, you have to give Grant Execute Permission on the function.

On TVF you have to give Grant Select.
