SQL 08R2 SP2 - did not update!!

  • Hello SQL peeps,

I installed SQL 08R2 SP2 last week on about 20 servers however one did not update. (All where being updated from SQL 08R2 SP1)

The install ran just fine, all 5 times, but it did not update the server on restart, shut down, power off and on. I did the normal @@version and it never updated. Has anyone else seen this, before I call MS?

    Many Thanks,

    😎

  • Maybee, before calling MS look at logs from update? Post logs, maybe someone then will be able to help.

  • I can't find anything in the logs. I looked at the log in the temp DIR under my user account and the log file under bootstrap\log\folder date n time\detail.txt -- nothing that indicates the update failed, no error no nothing, very stange...

  • And what are in the first line of Summary.txt file?

    Should be:

    Sorry I have been away...

    Overall summary:

Final result: The patch installer has failed to update the shared features. To determine the reason for failure, review the log files.

  • Is it a clustered server? Is it possible the instance was on a different node?

  • Single server not clustered.

So now you should review the log files, find an issue and resolve it.

  • If it says failed to update shared features, this is more like BIDS and Management studio right? Should not be as much of a problem?

What is the version number of your instance?

    10.50.2500 08R2 SP1 or under select @@version it still says sp1
