How to set user for deploying reports?

  • When I deploy my report from BIDS (2008) it doesn't ask me for a user name, it picks a user and tries to use that user to do the upload, but that user doesn't have permissions. So, how to set the user which is used for deployment?

Basically, it's the opposite of this question - he wants to get rid of the login box and I want to see it at least one more time...

This is the output I get...

Question is... how to change the "MyDomain\MyUserName" to a legit user?

  • I found out how to fix it. It's in the Control Panel->User Accounts->Manage Your Credentials

One of the things in the "Vault" was the user it was picking for deployment. Deleting that user allowed me to click "Deploy" in BIDS and have it ask for the login again. Then I could enter a login which works.

  • So you deleted a local user account? Be careful this does not cause issues in other areas.

    ----------------------------------------------------

  • Well I hope it doesn't cause any "issues" because I don't have that job any more and I'm never speaking to them again!

  • Sorry to hear this. I won't ask for details.

    Cheers

  • LOL, better things come up and sometimes you have to irritate someone in order to take advantage. I left in an unprofessional way, but I had to do it that way for my own good.

  • It's not meant as a criticism... just some advice because I've seen what has happened to others when they do such a thing. It's a very small world and even if you're absolutely correct in your reasons for doing such a thing, it can follow you in a very bad way.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Oh yeah I know that, I've been doing this stuff for over 20 years. It isn't maybe as bad as I made it sound. I just didn't like the place. I had good reasons.

  • It's good if you still have friends there that can give you a reference. So don't burn your bridges completely.

    ----------------------------------------------------

  • I only worked there for two months, and I didn't do anything and didn't get to know anybody - they all hated me for some reason. It really was weird. I've never been hired for a job before, and basically been told to sit there and do nothing all day. When I tried to go find some work to do, I accidentally stepped over some weird cultural boundary and offended someone. I've never encountered that before, but someone I spoke to about it said they thought it was a case of "I violated the caste system" and since 90% of the staff was straight from India, that kind of made sense. I am a take charge kind of person, and I made that clear in the interview, and if they didn't want someone who could take charge and get things done, they should have hired someone else. So, I had problems with the job assignment itself, problems with the people, and they didn't really need me in the first place. So, when I say I quit in an unprofessional way, what I mean is I walked into my supervisor's office at 4pm on a Friday and said "today is my last day here" because it really was the last day I could mentally handle, and I felt like I was wasting their money.

And when I say I didn't do anything, I mean the report this question is about, and some minor web site bug fixes are the only things I did for TWO MONTHS. You don't hire someone with over 20 years of experience and my salary requirements to post on Facebook all day. I need a challenge, and I'm worth it 🙂
