EMC Upgrade caused SQL server to crash

  • I have a two node cluster for my production system that is running SQL Server 2008. We were upgrading our EMC SAN firmware online yesterday and it caused my server to crash. It looks like it tried to failover but couldn't complete the process. When I looked at my active node it still recognized my database and logs but not the Quorum or MSDTC. That was being recognized by the passive node. I had to shut down one node and then reboot the other to get the system back up and running. Has anyone seen this happen before? The online upgrade wasn't suppose to disrupt the server as it still had two active paths available. We did follow the suggestion to not try the upgrade during peak usage, yet, we did have some departments still working or at least trying to......

Don't wait another minute. Get EMC on the phone and get them to help you.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • We completed the upgrade of the firmware. I will contact EMC but I was still wondering what happened and if anyone else had seen this before?
