SQL Server 2008R2 'Web Edition' License Query

  • Hi All

I have what seemingly is a pretty basic query however dont seem to beable to get a definative answer (the licencing company we have seem to think Web Edition doesn't exist)

I am currently working on a solution for a small company so costs are watched quite closely.

We have what is essentially a reporting and configuration type web front end open to our clents sitting in the cloud on a SQL Database. This database is going to be fed partly by data from remote databases (SQL Express/via entity framework) sitting on client sites (its a monitoring set up).

What I cant figure out is can I use Web Edition for this? It's not doing anything particularly fancy, just storing data for the webpage.

Obviously this has large cost implications, whether we can use Web Edition, or have to get a CPU/Core License with Standard Edition.

Unfortunatly cant use express on the cloud due to db size

    Any pointers would be helpful

    Thanks in Advance

    Jack

  • There's a feature matrix here, although you may have already seen it:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993(v=sql.105).aspx

Don't trust software resellers, I've bought from them more than once and had to spend literally hours arguing over licensing rules with them. It's in their interest to sell you the most expensive package.

    Note to developers:
    CAST(SUBSTRING(CAST(FLOOR(NULLIF(ISNULL(COALESCE(1,NULL),NULL),NULL)) AS CHAR(1)),1,1) AS INT) == 1
So why complicate your code AND MAKE MY JOB HARDER??!

  • Hello:

    Need Help.

I have been searching for "SQL server 2008 R2 Web edition" for unlimited users for several weeks now. Do you know where I can find this product?

If it is no longer in existence, what is its alternative?

Thank you so much for this response.

Not entering a new top is of course a Newbie's issue.

    Thanks again

  • Hello:

A number of problems, and please, a few questions.

    a) SQL Server 2008 R2 web edition or unlimited editions for unlimited users are just so hard to find, how can I find one.

    b) How does the licensing work, becasuse this aspect is just as difficult to deal with.

    c) how is the pricing done, or how much does it cost?

    d) Can Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard R2 Full Version, do what SQL Server 2008. R2 unlimited edition can?

    Newbie
