SSMS Not installing

  • I attempted several different ways of installing 2008 R2 on my local and I was never able to get the SSMS to show in the application after the install.

    I have 2008 r2 but no SSMS for 2008 r2

  • In the installation options, did you make sure Client Tools included SSMS? Does your installation media include that option?

  • Yes that option was available and was selected.

Still in a quandry as to why it does not showup in the list of available

    tools for 2008 R2

    :hehe:

  • Can you type SSMS in Start->Run

What is the error message you are getting?

    M&M

  • I ran SSMS from Start-> Run and I saw the splash screen for the begining of the SSMS and that was it.

  • What version of Windows are you running it on? Some earlier versions have to be patched (or have SQL Server patched) in order to run later versions of SQL Server (including SSMS).

  • I am running on Windows XP Pro with SP3

I do have a copy of SQL Server 2005 and compact edition working well on the box.

There is another person I work with who has installed the 2008 r2 succesfully.

    Puzzled still.
