I got an iPhone for Xmas, and I have to say, I've no idea how I managed without it, even though it's been only a week. Admin tasks have already proved themselves, and I've started configuring the server to email me status reports, I get emails regularly from collegues, and using the RDP program and web browser to access my server.
This means I can be more mobile while still being available.. I can sit in a cafe and enjoy a cappachino or whatever and do rhudimentary trouble shooting tasks which would previously have had someone shouting down the phone and me running back to the office. This means I'll be able relax a little at lunch and go home on time more often.. I like my little gem, I'm never without it.. Can't wait for a few SQL Server centric apps to appear.

I have had an Iphone for a year or more now and am a big fan, one could say I am an Iphone evangelist. Put it this way, since I got one there are another half a dozen now here at work. We have had the Android comparisons and when it comes to Internet Access the Iphone shines through hands down.
I have never been a big mobile phone or gadget man until I saw an Iphone being used in America to book a restaurant and my eyes were opened. Something useful, not just cute! I couldn't wait to get one and am one happy bunny ever since.
I never knew about podcasts until I got one of these and am staggered at the amount of free material of such quality on every topic you can think of. Awesome.

Yes, if I could only use a small bluetooth keyboard with it, the thing would be nigh-on perfect.

I have an Android phone instead of an iPhone, but it's in the "same difference" category. Tons of uses.
I'd used "smartphones" before, and never had much use for them beyond the phone functions or checking my bank balance online if I could get a connection. Now I use this thing for more than I ever would have thought possible.
And it does amuse me that my phone has more computing power than my first desktop computer.

Am interested in hearing which apps/features/ways people are using to get the best out of their iPhones (DBA-wise).
I'm a DBA with an iPhone and the most I am currently doing is getting automated emails warning me of SQL issues sent to my iPhone.
ALL the SQL Servers I admin are on our network with no external face (other than RDP etc).

Sounds fun and all. I am curious about the extended security problems of using an Iphone or Android to RDP to a server (for example).

With the iPhone, you can set up a VPN link. I haven't heard of any security hole with doing this and then RDPing to the server.

I haven't tried this yet, but it says it allows you to make SQL queries to an OLE DB database

search for SQL and it will come back with a bunch of apps. i even bought a SQL 2008 book that i read on the train. and some of the free e-books that are PDF's i just added to iBooks.
one other thing i do is we have HP servers and i'm in the process of setting up iLO ports on them. with VPN and my iphone i can press the power button via the safari browser if need be instead of going to the data center at night.
with iOS 4 i have over 500 apps on my iphone now
i think new iPads will come out in early 2011 i might even get rid of my iphone and get a 3G iPad
