Storage Options For SQL Server 2005

  • I am in the process of testing several applications for use in a clustered environment.

We currently have a single 2005 SQL server.

I'm not a DBA by any means however I think I have enough experience with installing and configuring to set this up on Win2K3.

I understand that setting it all up in VMWare is tricky and possibly not possible as I have read in other places, however if anyone does know of a writeup that 100% works with VMWare for a simple cluster setup then please do direct me to it.

We have several PC's, a switch, the install CD's but the part that we cant determine is can we use Direct storage shared between the nodes as long as both nodes see the same drive letter ? Or can we possibly use a NAS device ? Like the cheap 1 and 2 TB World Books ? iSCSI devices are still a bit too expensive for functional testing.

Our SAN wont be in for 1 to 2 months. $100,000. and we need to get these tests done before it gets here. please help !
