Understanding Profiler ObjectNames

  • I'm trying to work out what our tempdb is being used for by running sql profiler. I'm picking up a number of entries in the ObjectName field that I don't understand, and that I can't find any reference to on the Web or any reference material.

The ObjectNames in question are :

    sort_init

    Flush IDES

    Ghost

Any guidance on where I could get information on these would be greatly appreciated

  • I'm not convinced you can do what you're trying to do in that manner. Tempdb is generally the work space for sql server for sorts, groups bys, spools, distincts and of course temp tables, where possible sql server will attempt to do this in memory but will tend to use tempdb.

  • I'm sure you're right that it's not feasible to understand everything that's going on in tempdb. It's more curiosity on my part, having seen references to these objects in Profiler and not being able to find any information on them.
