    I would suggest that the exact opposite could be true as well.  There are many things I've read that immediately strike me as an improvement over the methods I'd be currently using.  Striped backups comes immediately to mind.  Of course I subjected it to testing.  But it was a fairly short development time to getting that into production, significantly reducing both our backup and restore time.  But agreed that skepticism is a good approach to many things.
