Reversing visibility of spam forum threads

  • Wouldn't it be worth the try making topics invisible when reported for spam ?

Nowadays , when I report for spam, I also reply "reported", so others opening the thread can see it has already been reported.
I don't know how many spam reports SSC is getting on a daily basis, but maybe such threads could be moved to a "private-SSC-staff-only" partition so they can be double checked by your staff and can be "un-spammed" after such validation.

  • There is a definite pattern to most of the spam posts... I don't understand why their spam detector hasn't learned from all the spam reports.

I've stopped reporting spam because it doesn't seem to do any good anymore.  It sometimes never gets whacked.

One of the things that might help is that I'm convinced certain 'bots have learned how to create a login.  I don't see why SSC wouldn't require something like "Captcha" to create a login.  I personally wouldn't mind some form of "Captcha" on forum entries either.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I think you would all hate the idea of a captcha popping up regularly for posts.

Plenty of span is hidden and removed. I'm not sure of the exact rules, but a few reports hide many items.

We don't  necessarily want to review every  post on every report. That would be overwhelming for us.
