Posts disappearing into the vast abyss

Twice, since yesterday, after typing in a loong post (and taking considerable time to compose it), when I clicked "Post Reply", the screen refreshed, presenting me with a blank posting window, and I lost my post. My webmail account warns that this will happen if it takes me longer than 30 minutes to type in an e-mail, and suggests using a separate text editor to compose. So I understand that this can happen. I just wonder if anything can be done? By the way, today, I spent perhaps 15 minutes composing my post, due to doing a little research to make sure I got it right!

If I remember correctly it has something to do with sessions timing out or something like this... maybe the webmaster of this site can shed some light on this.

I took only about 10 minutes before hitting "post reply"...and everything disappeared - must say though that it's the first time it's happened to me!

I have noticed this as well and have found one thing that might be the cause. It seems that if I'm preparing a post in a thread and someone else has placed a reply in the same thread before I do, mine disappears.
Lately, if I feel a diatribe coming on
I've gotten into the habit of copying my post to my clipboard before hitting the Post Reply button. That way if I get blown out, I can just select to post again and paste my text back. My hovercraft is full of eels.

You're right about the observation though - it does get "swallowed" when it's in conflict with someone else's post....a "locking" contention mayhaps ??

LOL...it depends. But I try not to 'rant' too much here in keeping with the professional tone of the site.
And this is off-topic (since when did that ever stop me
) but I haven't ever come across such a great, free resource which has so many helpful and professional people supporting it. I'm sure we've all seen the posts about "I have a friend supporting XYZ database and he was wondering if there are any sites out there like this one". And the answer AFAIK is simply no. It never ceases to amaze me how helpful people are here, how you usually get a quick answer to your questions and how hardly ever a cross word is spoken. It's a real tribute to SQLServer.com and its founders that they've been able to keep it this way.

Since we're "off the topic" anyway - Couldn't agree more on how wonderful this site is....if I'm off it for more than a couple of hours I start getting withdrawal symptoms...it's like some kind of a d&*^ drug...so addictive!
"But I try not to 'rant' too much here....." --- I wish you would - a well written rant would always make good reading...if there's any complaint at all that I have it's with the lack of (correct) spellings and grammar (I'm obsessive/compulsive that way :-p ) - not that it's ever stopped me from coming back for more....

Copying your post locally, or even composing it with an editor, is the best solution. There is very little that the site can do if there is a problem with your session, or something locally.

I always make a local copy of my response, because I lose it half the time!
