Will installing the 32 bit run-time and design-time support enable DTS packages to be opened on a 64 bit machine?

  First let me apologize for any typos as i have a broken hand and am forced to hunt and peck right now.

  I am on client site and they have several DTS packages they would like to either be converted to stored procs or to SSIS packages. I cannot open the DTS packages to even estimate effort.

  In the link https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143755(v=sql.100).aspx] it speaks of installing 32 bit run-time and design-time support files - which I have done with no apparent success.

  I've read and re-read the instructions and finally realized I may have been misreading the 1st bullet point:

  There is no 64-bit design-time or run-time support for DTS packages. On a 64-bit computer, DTS packages, and Integration Services packages that use the Execute DTS 2000 Package task to run DTS packages, can run only in 32-bit mode.

  I read this and took the 2nd sentence of the bullet point to mean that if I did install the 32 bit support files as instructed in the rest of the link that I could open DTS packages.

  Now after having re-read it more closely, does the first sentence mean that if you are on a 64 bit machine you are out of luck regardless of whether or not you install the 32 bit support files?

  That is becoming my new interpretation and I was just looking for confirmation from my peers.

  I guess I'll ask this as well - has anyone ever been able to open a DTS package on a 64 bit machine? If so HOW?
