The exit code comes from something in the .bat file, not SSIS. My guess is you've got a double-hop of some kind going on, messing with the rights to whatever it's doing.
Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.
