Procedure for adding new named instance to production sql server 2008 r2 std. ed.

  • Hi

I have a sql server 2008 r2 std. ed. box with only default instance on it.

It is patched to build 4297 (sp2 cu10).

Normally I create an extra named instance when installing the box - but not this time.

Now I need to add an extra named instance on this SQL, which is allready in production.

Will it require a reeboot ?

    What about patching ?

Will I have to reapply SP2 and then reapply CU10 ? and when doing so - should I only select the new Instance ?

it might require one before you run the installer if you have a pending reboot.

When installing the new instance it's unlikely to require a reboot afterwards.

Yes, you will need to apply the SP and\or CU to the new instance

  • Hi,

to avoid doing the CU you could try slipstreaming the installation
