Rendering to PDF Triggers #Error messages

  • I have a report that looks fine when it is rendered in the browser, but when it is exported to PDF three of the numeric values in the report come out as #Error on all but the first page of the output. Curiously, the aggregated values of the same three values in the tablix footer row are fine. It is only the (Details) section values that have #Error beside them.

These values are based on calculated fields that were added to SSRS dataset and not part of the underlying query. I would blame it on this fact, but becasue the aggregated values of the same calculated fields work fine, that doesn't make sense. Nor does it make sense to me that the first page is rendered correctly but the rest of the pages have the #Error.

Has anyone else experienced unusual behavior like this when exporting to PDF?

  • Here's one solution I found:

On the subreport properties in the main report, there is a KeepTogether property that is set to false by default.

Once I changed that to true on all instances, everything works like a charm. Makes no sense to me, but its over and done with!

  • In my case there is no subreport in this design, so the "Keep Together" property fix does not seem applicable to my situation.
