I've tried the trial version for a period of time. I found it to identify issues/problems well enough to take a pro-active approach in averting any major problems. So in other words, it does the job.
My personal opinion there are other tools out there that do just a good of a job, if not better. I am in the later stages of running the various trials. I'm rather sure I know which way I'll go with, probably not the Red-Gate Monitor.
Others you can look at are the Idera Diagnostic manager or the Quest Spotlight or Foglight.
I do use the Red-Gate SQL Compare & SQL Data Compare which work very well and am pleased with their results.
I've found that monitoring tools, for the most part do their job, it is a matter of what makes sense to you in the GUI and how easy it is to react to issues/problems.
