I need to install a two node sql 2008 r2 cluster on win 2008.

What are the permisson or previlages required for the setup account or user for Installing sql cluster?

  • The setup account requires administrator permission to carry out the install. The service account should be a basic user account.

  • I believe the admin access is needed to create ActiveDirectory information for the cluster like ServerName configured to the IP address. If your AD administrator can create those things before the install (you can find this information in the link above) then the service account (AD Account) for the services does not need to be an AD Admin, but does need to be a Admin to the physical servers in the Cluster.
