    This tendency is so innate to the human mind, our legal systems works to exclude it by design. ...

    Eric, Agreed but also there are other parts of the society we live in that have double blind placebo independently monitored testing of data that are not altered. And if they are found to be faulty the legal system you speak of kicks in. So though we be prone to attempt to shade the result to our point of view or advantage, we also take precautions in some cases to insure that we do not allow the alteration of the true findings due to perspective. We do at times let statistics tell the truth, and we do also at times let science be science.
