SSRS Re-Install, Application Re-Install !!!!

  • Hi All,

I have reporting services application running on a server. Due to some reason, this application needs to be reinstalled (Some corruption in .Net Framework assemblies and not able to launch report server url) . SQL Server reporting Services needs to be reinstalled as well.

Now I need some help here on how to go about this?

If I may put in steps my understanding, it is as below.

    1) Take the back up of the ReportServer database on some other machine. (for all RDL backups)

    2) Install the .NetFramework and reinstall SQl Server 2008 (reporting component only), while doing so report server url is configured.

    3) Install ReportServer Database on the machine and get all the reports backup and deploy the same to Report Server.

    Is this understanding correct ?

    OS - Windows Server 2003,

    SQL Server 2008.

    Regards,

  • When you go to install RS, I'd pick to do it manually, not let the install configure. Then, you'll have the option of walking through each part of the config yourself using the config tool after the install is done. When you get to the database step, you can tell it to use your existing db and not have to create a new one. This would save you having to restore the backup.

Of course, having a backup is a great idea, just in case, and if you do need to restore it, it will bring back any of the security settings you've already configured.
