no need to stop the instance, i'd think.
you can force the database offline, and take it back with a couple of commands, i'd think:
ALTER DATABASE Test SET OFFLINE WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
ALTER DATABASE Test SET ONLINE; USE Test;
