I guess for an article it would be enough to stay within "SQL Server - OS environment" security aspects.

As for the best practices - I guess I could easily write a book about the worst practices.

I was once able to shift files around servers in a domain which I should not be able to access because of being behind firewall.:-P

Nobody noticed, only the person who asked me for the favour shared this secret with me.
