Please advise. Mobile phone users (Androids) trying to open Excel files (in QuickOffice) sent to them from RS get the error "File cannot be opened." If I save the file on my pc and then send to them, they can open it.
The version of SS is: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2500.0 (Intel X86) Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7600: ) (WOW64) (Hypervisor)
The version of the phone app they use is QuickOffice 5.0.109. The spreadsheet app is QuickSheet.
Does anyone know the solution for this? I cannot find anything related to QuickOffice or other mobile devices. I'm going to apply SS service pack 2, but have no idea if it will help.

Try a .csv file instead.

The problem with using a csv file is that it's a fancy report with formatting and charts--multiple sheets. I could try a pdf or some other workaround, but was hoping to find what others have done to fix it (i.e., service pack or whatever).

From my experience, the Excel file is just the XML portion and I know QuickOffice on iPads and iPhones cannot open it. If it is opened on a PC and saved, all the data is saved as an actual Excel file. A work around would be to create a DTS package, open the file, save and then e-mail. Kinda defeats the puropse of SSRS that way though.

Reporting back some solutions:
For Android users, I had them switch from QuickOffice to KingSoft Office which is free and works great, even for complex, multisheet XL files generated by RS by RS 2008 R2.
For Pc users of Excel 2010: Our users were getting an error (some data has been lost) when opening an Excel file generated by RS 2008 R2. After clearing the dialog box, it would appear ok. I solved this by applying service pack 2 and cumulative updates through #5. I was hoping that would solve the problem for the Iphone users.
For Iphone, users, I'm still drawing a blank. No free apps are working. Some do open the file, but the formatting is messed up. Some can't open the file period.
So, if there is a Iphone app (free or not) that can handle complex, multisheet XL files generated by RS 2008 R2, please let me know.

If you have iPads, you might look at Mobi SSRS. It doesn't look like MS will release office any time soon and the latest rumor was those devices will need to use Office 365.

Unfortunatlye, I may have to create a custom email subscription process, one that
1. calls the RS report's SQLAagent job that saves the file to a fileshare,
2. then code that opens and saves the Excel file,
3. then code that emails it.
I've been holding off doing this because, I would think there would be a solution out there that involves getting the right Iphone App or applying a SQL service pack!
If only our executives had Androids like all the other employees, this would be easy. (The five executives had to have iphones!!!)
