Operating System error 665 on SQL 2008 R2

  • I am getting this error : Operating system error 665(The requested operation could not be completed due to a file system limitation) encountered.

    Microsoft has this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002606

But that resolves problems for SQL Server 2008 on Windows 2008, but I am encountering this problem on Windows 2008 R2 /SQL Server 2008 R2

Should I still go ahead and apply those patches ?

Anybody has had any experience on it ?

  • I would say no. Talk to MS. Patches are specific to versions and the R2 versions are completely separate versions.

    First, I agree with Steve.

Second, to make easier for others to see what you were referencing in the MS KB.

  • Hi,

I'm having the same problem as you described, SQL (LARGE snapshot) + win2008R2 sparse files, generating error 665.

Did you ever found a solution for that?

  • When is this occurring?

Are you running a DBCC or BAckup at that time?
