I've ground up a hard drive with a power-grinder (grinding wheel, whatever), and I've melted one down with a welding torch. Was fun both times, but you do have to watch out for toxic fumes either way.

Just squeeze them in a vise. It si clean and gets the job done.
Most people do not realize that there are hard drives in copiers, and that your average one will have hundreds if not thousands of pages including those that were printed securely.
