It's a pity the tiltle of this thread didn't say "exchange" instead of "outlook". People who use outlook but not exchange are rather more numerous than people who use outlook to access an exchange server (so for most outlook users this recovery method will not work) since exchange was for a very long time the most hideously difficult to administer of email servers and also the most horribly bugridden. I'm told it's better now, but neither I nor any sysadmin I know is prepared to risk using exchange, there's too much history of pain.
