    How can this be done for every field in a table (at once)?

    g

    select max(datalength(YourColumn)) from YourTable

    Just add more columns

    select max(datalength(YourColumn)) as YourColumnLength, max(datalength(MyColumn)) as MyColumnLength from YourTable
