I want to know how to do this exact thing as well. I want to be able to utilize NetBackup as the backup tape device to send .bak files directly to tape. I am already aware of how the SQL agent works so no need to try and sell me on any alternatives.

Anyone with insight on getting THIS to work, your help would be appreciated.
