Create SQL JOB to backup database and schedule it

  • Comments posted to this topic are about the item Create SQL JOB to backup database and schedule it

  • Looks interesting. Can you please confirm which versions of SQL Server this will work with: 2000, 2005, 2008, 2008R2 ?

  • Can you explain why your script is better than just using the SSMS Maintenance Plan Wizard?

    Thanks,

  • It is always easy to just run the query rather than do it from SSMS Maintenance Plan Wizard.

  • I have tried it for 2005, I think it will work for 2008 also.

  • Sure, I agree that its easier to run a script than to click through a wizard every time. But if the user uses the wizard only once, configuring the backup with the schedule and options that (s)he wants, then scripts it out, its much easier than editting your text file by hand.

Is there a bonus feature in your script that is not included when using the wizard?

  • I find it helpful when for some reason while creating Maintenance plan, I get errors but I can create jobs.

Is it possible to include the History cleanup/Overwrite option in the same job?

  • Thanks for the script.
