Utility Control Point - can SQL 2005 be an enrolled instance ?

  • I used a SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) as the Utility Control Point unit.

I want all of my other servers : 2005 Std. Ed., 2005 Ent. Ed., 2008 Std Ed. to be enrolled in this Utility Control Point unit. Is it possible ?

If yes, do I need to apply some patch or service pack on my 2008 R2 ?

Now, it is : RTM 10.50.1734 (culmulative pack 3 was added).

  • As far as I know it's not possible to enroll anything other than 2008 R2 into UCP. I found the following on the MS website.

"Before you create a UCP, review the following requirements and recommendations.

In this release, the UCP and all managed instances of SQL Server must satisfy the following requirements:

SQL Server must be version 10.50 or higher."

Let me know if you find out different.

    Thanks.

  • No.

UCP is for 2k8 R2 systems.

  • 2008 SP2 (>10.0.4) can also be enrolled.
