Forum Introduction

  • Many thanks to Steve Jones for promoting the idea of having a seperate forum for Business analytics and related technologies.

The major issue that I wish this forum to undertake are as follows:

    1.Need of Business Analytics

2.Generations and current trend in the area of Business Analytics

3.Understanding of various terms that make Analytics as it should be such as KPI(Key Performance Indicators), Measures, Scorecards and Dashboards

    4.Scalability and future trends

    Happy learning!!:-):-)

  • Hi Raunak, Great idea with this forum

    For the beginning:

what is the difference/relationship between Business Intelligence and Business Analytics?

    Thanks,

    Iulian

  • Let's demystify!!!

Business Analytics is a part of whole package which is known as Business Intelligence.

Analytics which is deived from the word Analysis facilitates the user to dig deeper into the facts and reason the cause or even predict the next happening

Data Mining is one such Analytics technology

  • Sounds good.

I would like to make some exercises on this regard.

    What do I need?

    Thanks

    Iulian

  • Any good sites with overviews of Performancepoint with screenshots or demos? I'm looking for the gee whiz stuff not the textual details.

  • Me, I'm looking for textual how-to's...

I can imagine the whiz bang, but my meager attempts to create the web parts and incorporate them into a dashboard have been dismal failures.

I started basically making pieces of an existing SSAS cube and then incorporating them into a webpage.

In one pane I had dimension selectors, in the others I had charts, graphs and cube surfaces.

I had expected that when I changed the dimension selectors in the one pane it would impact the rest, but that wasn't the case, and I found I had to stuff all the pieces onto a single pane to make them interact.

I can understand why that makes sense, but it's just silly, how can I link the controls in one pane to the results displayed in all of the remaining panes?

Surprisingly enough, the best Performance Point site I have found so far in on MSDN!

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/performancepoint/

I have yet to see a lot of information out there on Performance Point in book form or on the web. I have seen that there are more Performance Point books coming out later this year so hopefully at least one of these books will answer a lot of our questions.

  • Here is a post on how to set up Performance Point filters. Even though it says its for Performance Point 2007, it works the same for 2010.
