MSSQL Server 2005 mirroring

  • Hi all,

Please Clarify about licence details for mssql server mirroring part.

I am planning for implement the mirroring technology on my enviroinment.

So i have some doubght on licence part.

wether need to get licence for mirroring instance and witness instance in mirroring enviroinment ?.

please anybody can clarify to me.

  • You do not need a license for your mirroring server (assuming you dont run both servers instances for user access at the same time).

What that means is if you are mirroring two databases and at some point each database is principalled on a differnt instances (one on one and the other on the other) then 'technically' your mirrored server needs to be licensed for that period.

No license is needed for witness!

  • A colleage just told me, that it doesnt need to be licensed for the first 30 days. So as long as you get the initial principal back online within 30 days, you'll be fine!
