Installing SQL Server 2008

  • hi friends.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008. it is successfully installed with out asking for any kind of credentials.when i open sql server management studio it is asking credential. what will be the user name and password?

  • you can get in if you are A an administrator on the box and you selected mixed or windows authentication mode during install. if you selected something other then windows authentication then it would have asked for an sa username and password. otherwise you must be a member of the administrattive group on that computer. that will force it to allow you in.

If only I could snap my figures and have all the correct indexes apear and the buffer clean and.... Start day dream here.

  • Did you specify Windows Authentication or Mixed Mode Authentication? If Mixed Mode you can use the SA username and the password you specified during the install.

If Windows Authentication did you add an administrator during the install? There is a point during the install where you can add an administrator and/or add the current user as an administrator.

If neither of these you can probably re-run the installer and add an administrator that way.

  • While installing SQL Server 2008 and choosing authentication, By default it will be windows authentication, if you choose mixed mode then it would have asked to type the sa password.

Assuming you have choosed windows authentication, did you add admin user for SQL Server, if no then you need to go ahaed with the installation once more and please select mixed mode authentication.
