    Welcome to the madness of "Nawlins."

    Bourbon Street can be a bit rough on the body, but there is some really fine dining to make up for it.

    If you get a chance check out the World War II museum it can be truly thought provoking to see what was created and accomplished without the benefit of todays technology.

    Speaking of crashing things and issues coming up during these kind of things, did anyone see Steve Jobs rollout speech/demo of the new iPhone yesterday? 😀 Jobs tried three times during his keynote to do a side-by-side comparison of the iPhone 4's screen resolution versus its predecessor's. He was trying to call up The New York Times' Web page, but it wouldn't load because too many devices in the room were operating over Wi-Fi, swamping the frequency. :w00t: Jobs switched to backup phones for the demonstration, but he was still stymied. "Well jeez, I don't like this," Jobs groused. He abandoned the demo while staffers investigated. ROLMFAO. :laugh:

    I'm always here, but unfortunately I can't get anyone to pick up my TechEd tab.

    Sometimes Bourbon Street really gets to be too much, and if you're tired of the food and music (the music scene is somewhat concentrated on Frenchmen Street), there's a quite a few other things you can do, even around the restricted times of the conference schedule.

    I think you'll probably be mainly out of luck at the Cabildo, Presbytere, Old Mint, Mardi Gras World and other museums which are only open during the day.

    However, the New Orleans Museum of Art (http://www.noma.org/ - take the red Canal streetcar to City Park) should be open until 8pm on Wednesday, and the Sculpture Garden is open until dusk. The Park has a lot of amenities right there (http://neworleanscitypark.com/) - there is a Thursdays at Twilight concert series in the Botanical Garden.

    You can take the streetcar up St. Charles just for a ride, and Audubon Park and the real Zoo (not open late - but they serve beer) are right there uptown.

    And uptown - Magazine @ Louisiana around the Bulldog, Tchoupitoulas around Dos Jefes - there are quieter restaurant and bar scenes which are great.

    I am extremely envious. I went to my first TechEd a few years ago, after having been to VS Live events for several years, and found TechEd to be a superior conference. However, the agency I work for is in such financial straights that all training and conference money is dried up. No one has been anywhere in at least 2 years. We've all just holding onto our jobs and thankful for that! Hopefully that training budget will return next fiscal year.

    This years TechEd seems pretty sparse for a SQL DBA. SQL Sessions are sparse today and a lot of marketing fluff even though R2 just came out. Maybe that's because the BI conference is going on at the same time and I hear those sessions are packed. And yes the keynote was a snoozefest. The Zydeco opening band was fun though.

    Thanks for the suggestions. Had a quiet dinner on Iberville last night and then a few hours in Harrahs' with a friend. Not sure what I'll do tonight.

    The BI sessions are OK, but htey are limiting access, which is annoying. I did see a good MDM session, and one on Streaminsight. I think you have to try and pick speakers as well as topics, but the yellow area in the expo hall is a good spot to chat up some experts on technologies.

    I can relate with you comments Steve. I have been to new orleans twice when I worked for another company and both times I could not wait to leave. I mean no disrespect to anyone at all it is simply not my thing. Everyone I was with had a fabulous time staying up till the wee hours of the morning drinking an dancing but I went back to my hotel and continued my work. I simply have never been a big partier and by the time we got off work I found that was pretty much all that was left to do.

    I prefer baton rouge more. I enjoyed my time there both times and loved the more relaxed evenings walking the river.
