Query on SQL Server 2005 components

  • Hi All,

I am not sure whether this is the right place in the forum to ask this question. I have been asked to configure the TSM for SQL TDP working on one of my database servers where SQL Server 2000 is running.

Initially after installing the software, we were not able to configure the application as the pre-requisites weren't met as follows,

Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 (or later)

Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 (or later)

    Microsoft SQL Server Native Client

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection"

I have checked the server and can confirm that .NET 2.0 is already on the server. The Core XML version 4 on the server as it is 2000 there is no Native Client or the 2005 Management Object Collection present.

Could you please advise whether it is safe to install these components? If so, what should be the way I have to follow to do this pre-reqs sorted and any issues with doing this on a 2000 DB server?

    Thanks,

    Philip.

  • I haven't used TSM for SQL 2005, so my recommendations would be as follows:

    1. Install TSM on a server with SQL 2005

    or

    2. Install SQL 2005 management tools on the SQL 2000 server

It is likely that TSM needs the 2005 tools since he has some hooks that will install into SSMS. It should be able to backup the 2000 databases - but just needs to have the 2005 stuff available.

And of course there is always the option of verifying with Tivoli.
