Perform transactions from a remote server onto the main server.

  • Hi everyone!,

This is my first day and first query.

I have a little tough one here. Hope somebody can help me out.

We are running an ERP system with 4 remote locations connected to our main database server at our Head Office.

Since the internet connection is very slow and sporadic (these remote locations are in the middle of the desert in bahrain - btw.), it is very difficult for users at the remote locations to use the software effectively.

My ERP vendor is unable to help. So I will have to devise a way out of this situation.

This is what my solution is:

    a) I can now replicate our main database onto these remote locations, so that users can use the ERP without internet connectivity. (one-time exercise).

    b) A windows XP service on the remote machines would have to be created, which, would keep a tab on internet connectivity. As soon as there is a connection, this service would would then send the "new" transactions in a zip file to the main server via FTP.

    c) There would be a service running on the main server (win server 2003 std. edition) which would unzip these new transaction files and update the same on the main sql database.

I know that this solution is possible. But how to do the transactions part?.

that has got me totally stumped!

    Can anyone help me ??

Thanks & Warm regards to everyone.
