Resource Governor

  • Comments posted to this topic are about the item Resource Governor

  • Is the answer right? or is this the answer for this question?

"Resource management is limited to the SQL Server Database Engine. Resource Governor can not be used for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services."

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb895232(SQL.100).aspx

  • I mean the explanation does not match the question & answer.

  • BOL says:

Resource management is limited to the SQL Server Database Engine. Resource Governor can not be used for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services.

So why is "Reporting Services, Integration Services, Analysis Services" answer correct? Am I missing something or misinterpret the BOL?

  • I wasn't suprised when I got it wrong, selecting only Database Engine, since I didn't know and couldn't envisage how it would work for those other services. I still can't.

  • Sorry, wrong tick on the answers. This has been corrected and points awarded back.

  • Thanks Steve!

  • Which components of SQL Server 2008 can the Resource Governor operate on? (select all that apply)

But there are radio button to select the answer. Then what does it mean by (select all that apply)

  • Good question....:)

  • Lighten up people. Being so stressed out will take years off your life. There's enought stress in our work lives. Is the answer to a QotD worth losing out on one more day of life?

  • "Select all that apply" means that it is a multiple choice question.

So there should be check boxes instead of radio buttons.

  • Steve thanks for a good question. It introduced myself and I imagine many others to a new or little know facet of SQL Server 2008 and in that way the question met the basic objective of the QOD.

Of the tool itself it will further complicate the life of DBAs, database developers and designers. One more tool with a lot of complexity to using it correctly. I only wish that it would have been designed to work with Reporting Services so that when the "big boss" demanded a report NOW, he/she could be accommodated so as look fondly on those in IT when it came the time to passing out pay increases.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
