    Comment:

ive i generate a small report and run an excel extract its no problem but

if i run a bigger report and try to export this report i doesnt work.

during the redering of the report i should insert 3 - 4 times the credentials then at least the error you are not authorized.

i entered the in the webcofig

on ReportServer and reportmanager directory .

but still the same error.. see log file

  • This is a known issue with SSRS 2005 and earlier; Reporting Services is memory dependent. On very large reports, you are consuming all available RAM and the server is restarting to correct the issue. The prompt for a login while a report generates is an indicator of being disconnected from the report server.

If you check your error logs, you will most likely find out of memory exceptions. The only way to get around this is to increase the RAM but there is still a limit to how large of a report you'd be able to run. Also, be aware the export method has an affect on system resources as well. Excel is the most costly while CSV is the least.

The good news is Microsoft has corrected this in SQL 2008 and the report server will now allow very large reports to execute.

  • Thanks for your info.

thats good to know, my first step i to check if this would be running with a sheduled job.

ive configured today an automatically job for the large extract.

ive only problems with 1 report, if the sheduled job will run successfully then i will use this option otherwise i check then exactly the configuration of the RAM.

    cheers

I am having similar problems where both running reports and exporting reports will cause a prompt to login. Using Task Manager, I checked my servers memory and it shows 4G of 8G available. In my log, I am not getting any errors about low memory. I do not think it is a memory issue.

After a reboot, the reports will run better but the export to Excel still continues to fail. I have tried exporting to CSV and that works. However, the CSV export has problems because one field is a comment field and if the user typed commas, apostrophes or single quotes the Excel will not import the data correctly.

Below are the entries from my most recent attempt lot export a report. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am having similar problems where both running reports and exporting reports will cause a prompt to login. Using Task Manager, I checked my servers memory and it shows 4G of 8G available. In my log, I am not getting any errors about low memory. I do not think it is a memory issue.

OK. NOW the log is showing memory errors. However, Task Manager is still showing 5G free. While this error is occuring there is very little page file usage.

    I'm at a loss.

  • Have you considered moving to SQL Server 20008 for the Report Server? It is no longer restricted by memory and on initial tests I've run, I've been able to generate 70,000+ page reports without issue.

Upgrading to SQL Server 2008 is not a quick solution: costs, time, testing and so on.

Things were running OK last week. This week they are not.

  • I'm looking for this answer, too. Is it a limitation of reporting services? I'm watching memory usage and processor, but its nowhere near looking like a problem of used-up resources. If it is a limitation, is there a known threshold?

    Thanks!

  • Now I know! And knowing is half the battle!

    Check out: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms159206(SQL.90).aspx and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909678

Currently I'm going with the option of changing the memory settings in rsreportserver.config file.

  • Hi,

There may be the two reasons for this

    1:Report session time out

    2:Report data limitation

1:Go to the ReportserverDB and increase the timeout for the reportserver.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Veeren.
Ignore this if you feel i am Wrong. 😉

  • Was there any resolution to this problem, we are experiencing the same thing in SSRS05 and upgrading right now is not an option.

  • Hie,

I am also looking for the answer. Anybody got solution ?

    Thanks In Advance,

    Vanitha
