Distributed transactions - AG setting Vs Linked Server setting

  • I understand MSFT "should be " supporting distributed transaction  starting SQL 2016 SP2 onwards.  I have run into situation where with "Per DB DTC" option enabled and " Promoted transactions to distributed " enabled at linked server is crashing the server, basically it is throwing the stack dumps which is forcing AG to failover. I would like to know if anyone knows which setting takes precedence. Below is combination of settings :

    i) DTC enabled at AG and "Promoted transactions to distributed" enabled at linked causes crash dump.
ii) DTC disabled at AG and "Promoted transactions to distributed " enabled, query works.
iii) DTC enabled and "Promoted transactions to distributed
    " disabled, query works.

I have a proc1 from a DB which is part of AG. Proc 1 calls proc2 which also part of same DB, proc2 calls remote proc via linked server on a DB which is not part of AG ( in my case didn't really matter whether remote DB is part of AG or not.
