Upgrade from 2014 to 2016

  • Good Morning, did something really stupid last night and now I'm struggling on how to fix the problem. Did an in-place upgrade from 2014 to 2016 and didn't unbind the SSL cert within SSRS. I am unable to open the 2014 config tool to unbind. Using NETSH, the system is telling me there is no SSL binding going on. I'm receiving an error that says index is out of range and everywhere I've read says this is because of the cert binding. Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Kirk

  • My workaround turned out to be installing a new instance of SSRS and pointing it to the old DBs.

  • I got this from someone: https://twitter.com/EduardoDBA/status/1034104956939321344

Just open the old SSRS Configuation manager and backup the certificates, then restore it on the new ssrs version #sqlhelp

Unfortunately not that easy. Reporting services won't fire up  so the config manager times out.

  • What's the exact error?

Also, I'm guessing that from what you said the SSRS service won't start? Or is the site won't load?

    Hi Steve

The service won't start. During the install I get:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.Parameter name: index

  • Hmmm, I have no idea. It looks like there is some issue with the service for sure, which I'd guess is the upgrade. The note about the cert being about to expire or expired could be an issue, but the failed to start, access denied could be certificate related or something else.

I assume the upgrade completed successfully?

You might need a case with MS to resolve this if rebuilding SSRS isn't an option.

I installed another instance on the box and pointed everything at the old dbs  Works great actually
